The building draws on themes from the natural structures of its forested surroundings, while hinting of the Eastern European traditions of its owner. Historically, cantilevers in architecture have been employed as a defense system. In this case, they are used for cost efficiency and visual mitigation of the structure. The overhangs reduce the 3,500-sq.-ft. building footprint, minimizing the cost for pier construction required by site soil conditions. The structure appears to levitate over its native context, preserving the integrity of the natural topography.
